New Leadership Roles in the School of Public Health

Read the following changes in the MPH and CTR leadership that will maintain the programs’ curricular excellence and distinctive approaches to education, while positioning the programs for future growth.

Professor Tidey will now be appointed as the Associate Dean for Research in the School of Public Health effective immediately.

Kim Gans, Ph.D., MPH, Adjunct Professor of Behavioral and Social Sciences, ​has been appointed the Director of Community Engagement in the School of Public Health effective immediately.

Community is the thread that runs through the teaching, research, and policy work of Professor Dulin, a medical sociologist studying how ‘resilience,’ or the ability to flourish in spite of adversity, may lead to better HIV-related outcomes.

SPH faculty Peter Monti was one of seven faculty members recognized by Brown University in its annual program to honor exceptional scholars across a wide variety of disciplines.

Joseph Braun, RN, MSPH, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Epidemiology, has been appointed the Director of the Center for Environmental Health and Technology (CEHT) in the School of Public Health effective January 1, 2020. Dr. Braun succeeds Gregory Wellenius, Ph.D. who has served in this role since 2018.

Jennifer Tidey, Ph.D., Professor of Behavioral and Social Sciences, Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior has been appointed as the Interim Associate Dean for Research in the School of Public Health.

Dr. Caroline Kuo, Assistant Professor (Research) in the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences, has been appointed as the inaugural Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion in the SPH effective April 1, 2017.

Assistant Professor of Health Services, Policy and Practice

A Brown University School of Public Health biostatistician and an infectious disease specialist have received a $3.5-million grant to develop new ways to use data from patient health records to optimize effectiveness of HIV treatment where resources are limited, such as in the developing world. They will work with an HIV care program in Kenya that provides healthcare to more than 130,000 patients a year.
