The retreat gives pre- and postdoctoral trainees an opportunity to present children’s environmental health research in a supportive environment to leading researchers and each other. This year’s 14 trainees came from across the country and presented on a range of environmental health threats facing children, including air pollution, endocrine disrupting chemicals, and toxic metals.
This year’s retreat focused on “Big Data” and featured keynote symposium from Dr. Andrea Baccarelli, the chair of Environmental Health Sciences at Columbia University, and Dr. Chris Duncan of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. Dr. Carolyn Mattingly of North Carolina State University presented on the Comparative Toxicogenomics Database.
Dr. Joseph Braun, Associate Professor of Epidemiology at Brown University and one of the retreat’s co-organizers said, “This retreat continues to be a valuable experience for trainees, providing them with opportunities to network with leading researchers in children’s environmental health, establish new collaborations, and receive constructive feedback on their research.”
