Biography

Why did you choose the Brown University School of Public Health?

I was strongly drawn to the learning environment. I've heard the atmosphere is incredibly collaborative, with friendly, approachable professors and students who genuinely support each other. Also, the opportunity to attend an institution with the high reputation of a Brown Ivy League school was significant. This combination of world-class standing and a welcoming community made it my top choice.

What makes Brown's program different from other programs you considered?

The commitment to small-class teaching was key; I know I'll receive excellent mentorship through high per-person resources and enjoy better interaction with both the approachable faculty and collaborative classmates. The ideal location was a deciding factor. Providence offers easy access to major job markets in Boston and New York, but provides a calmer, high-quality living environment without the congestion or noise of a major city.

What do you enjoy most about your program?

My biggest enjoyment comes from the program's strong combination of well-organized curriculum, the abundance of multiple research projects, and the helpful guidance from professors paired with solid support from the school.

What is your academic area of interest and why?

I am particularly interested in Real-World Data Analysis and causal inference because they provide powerful tools to bridge the gap between clinical trials and actual patient outcomes. Real-world data can capture the complexity of healthcare settings, while causal inference offers rigorous methods to identify treatment effects and guide decision-making.

What are your postgraduate goals/plans?

My goal is to pursue a PhD in Biostatistics after completing my master’s degree, in order to further strengthen my methodological training and research experience. In the long term, I plan to work as a biostatistician in the pharmaceutical industry.

Why Providence?

It is quiet and safe, which creates a good environment for study, while still being close to major cities like Boston and New York.

What advice would you give to a prospective applicant?

Consider how the program matches your long-term goals, and also pay attention to faculty support, available resources, and location, as these factors can greatly shape your graduate experience.
