Why did you choose the Brown University School of Public Health?

First of all, the course structure is ideal for my transition from mathematics and statistics to biostatistics. Secondly, The school is known for its research in various areas of public health. Lastly, Brown is known for its support and offers various resources to support the well-being and academic success of its students.

What makes Brown's program different from other programs you considered?

Choosing where to pursue a degree in public health was a significant decision for me, influenced by several key factors. Unlike other programs, the small class size at Brown University allows me to communicate with my classmates closely and thoroughly during the project and learn from their perspectives. Collaborative Learning Environment, at Brown, the atmosphere is distinctly collaborative rather than competitive. Last but not least, yes, it’s an Ivy League!

What do you enjoy most about your program?

I really enjoy the atmosphere in the department. Not only are the relationships between students very friendly, but the teachers are also approachable and easy to talk to.

What is your academic area of interest and why?

I have a keen interest in clinical data research. From a young age, I have been greatly fascinated by the medical field. I always aspire to use my knowledge to help other people, leveraging my skills to make a meaningful impact in healthcare.

What are your postgraduate goals/plans?

As a new person in biostatistics, my postgraduate plans are centred around deepening my research experience. I am eager to engage in diverse research projects to discover the specific areas within biostatistics that resonate most with my interests and skills. This exploratory phase is crucial for me to pinpoint the direction I want to take in my career. Additionally, I see this period as a valuable opportunity to enhance my abilities and gain insight into areas where I can improve. By immersing myself in research, I aim to not only refine my technical skills but also develop a clear understanding of where I can make the most impactful contributions in the field.

Geographic Advantage,  Brown is located in Providence, Rhode Island, just a short distance from Boston. Despite being near such a vibrant city, Providence maintains a relaxed pace of life that is perfect for studying. This unique combination ensures a balanced academic experience filled with both stimulation and the space to reflect and learn.

What advice would you give to a prospective applicant?

I would like to say to those who are about to apply. The most important part is to be bold, you are good enough. Also it is important to understand not only the location of the school but also the atmosphere of its departments. Remember, life isn't just about studying; living well is a crucial part of the experience. Choose a place where you can see yourself thriving both academically and personally.
