I chose the Brown University School of Public Health because of its commitment to interdisciplinary research, and its focus on addressing pressing public health challenges. There is also a lot of collaboration across disciplines, which aligns with me because of my passion for healthcare and technology. Coupled with the expertise of the faculty, and the inclusive community, Brown just made sense.
Brown's School of Public Health is different from other programs because it felt like a place where I could truly thrive, both academically and personally. From the start, I was drawn to the strong sense of community, where students and faculty are genuinely invested in each other's success. The faculty, who are leaders in public health, go beyond just teaching. They offer mentorship and support that make you feel empowered to reach your goals. I also love how diverse the program is, with students from all walks of life bringing different perspectives to the table. It creates a dynamic learning environment where I knew I'd grow.
What I enjoy most about the program is how it challenges me to think critically about public health issues in new and meaningful ways. The courses push me to go beyond just learning theory and really apply concepts like causality to real-world problems. The faculty are incredibly approachable and supportive, always encouraging us to ask questions and think outside the box.
My concentration is causal inference epidemiology. I’ve always had a deep interest in both mathematics and healthcare, which naturally led me to pursue epidemiology. It wasn't until I took my first epidemiology class here at Brown that I was introduced to the concept of causality, and I knew then that would be my concentration.

Living in Providence made sense for me because the East coast has always been home. I am also a big foodie, so I appreciate the diverse restaurant options here. If you like burgers, definitely check out Harry’s Burgers.
