I chose Brown University’s School of Public Health for the flexibility the online program provided, the various scholarship opportunities, and for the vibrant sense of community within the institution!
Brown's program is deeply rooted in fostering a sense of community, which becomes evident in the way the admission staff engages with prospective students and the overall willingness of everyone to provide assistance. In my interactions with other MPH programs, I didn't experience the same sense of contributing value to the program. However, with Brown, I felt genuinely appreciated as a student, even during my time as a prospective applicant.
In my program, I've discovered the content to be not only informative, but also engaging, and the camaraderie within my cohort is something I truly cherish. It has further deepened my sense of belonging to the Brown community, even though I am not physically located in Rhode Island.
In the realm of Public Health, my specific focus is on Maternal Health, with a passionate commitment to reducing the maternal mortality rate among minority women. As a mother and a minority, I have personally witnessed the profound impact of this issue on my life and the lives of those around me. My ultimate goal is to identify strategies and initiatives that can offer minority women the highest possible chances of surviving childbirth.
My postgraduate aspiration is to become a certified nurse-midwife, with the aim of actively contributing to the field of maternal health.
It seems so peaceful! I’m definitely excited to visit campus.
The most valuable advice I can offer is to craft your personal statement in a way that not only emphasizes your academic accomplishments but also vividly conveys your genuine enthusiasm for public health. Don't hesitate to share personal life experiences that have inspired your journey towards pursuing a career in public health.
