I selected the Brown University School of Public Health to transition from my undergraduate studies, which primarily focused on micro and cellular-level interventions in wet labs. My motivation was to explore a different dimension of scientific work, one that is tailored to the population level and more closely integrated with real people and their communities. I'm eager to expand my horizons beyond the laboratory and contribute to the broader field of public health by addressing health challenges at a population level.
Brown places a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration. The open curriculum encourages students to explore diverse fields, allowing me to integrate a wide range of knowledge into my public health studies.
My favourite part of Brown's Master of Public Health programme is its close-knit community and mutual support. This programme treats students as valued members of a tight community of peers and faculty, fostering a supportive community.
I am interested in health communication for its potential to bridge understanding among diverse communities. It encourages diverse perspectives and knowledge sharing, assisting people to make informed decisions about their well-being. For public health workers, health communication is a reasonably straightforward approach to finding fulfillment as it offers comparatively clear feedback on message reception and its impact.
My post-graduation plans involve engaging in health communication with the lay audience, either verbally or orally, to primarily focus on addressing language and knowledge barriers among women of colour in the US. I hope this can facilitate their comprehension of health information, navigation of the healthcare system, and informed decision-making.
I love the vibrant, welcoming atmosphere in Providence. The balance here between urban opportunities and a small-town atmosphere fosters a conducive environment for academic growth and personal development.
